Packing for tomorrow’s flight to Austin to hang out for ArmadilloCon 2014.  As always, there’ll be some amazing literary talent splashing around in this Texas pool (I know it’s going to be hot, so expect all my metaphors to be infected with dreams of Barton Springs…)

Come join me and high-caliber writer, artist, scientist, and editor types such as Ian McDonald, Ted Chiang, Jacob Weisman, Mario Acevedo, Stephanie Pui-Mun Law, Joe R. Lansdale, Sigrid Close, Howard Waldrop, and a zillion other wonderful pros. Looking forward to meeting my workshoppers! As for panel discussions, come hear me talk about:

Novels of the Year, Fri 10:00 PM-11:00 PMThe best science fiction, fantasy and horror of the year. Great for filling up your reading list.  Feeling rather pumped about this one because, you know, I did just read nearly every spec-fic book in Canada (or written by a Canadian anywhere in the world) for the Sunburst Awards.

Required Mystery, Fri 11:00 PM-Midnight: Cupp*, Brust, Crider, Lalumière, Lansdale, Renwick…We aren’t telling you the description.   Chuffed because, hello! Look at that panel lineup. So great. And by midnight I’ll be giddy and slappy and punch drunk.

Alcoholic Drinks in Fiction, Sat 5:00 PM-6:00 PM: Discussing the drinks mentioned in stories, movies and tv.   Speaking of punch drunk…

Cascade Writers Workshop

Come join us in adorable Kent, Washington this July 17-20th for the 2014 Cascade Writers Workshop series. I’ll be giving several talks on putting together short story collections, choosing stories for themed anthologies (as editor and writer), in travails of using pen names (le sigh…), the unsung secret delights of indulging in speculative poetry, and about a zillion other things, including but not limited to WHATEVER YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT.

That’s right y’all, it’s open season on Alex C. Renwick / Camille Alexa this year at Cascade Writers. Want to hear about promiscuous genre-hopping? What about the devastating truth behind Standard Manuscript Format? Want to know what it’s like to stay in love with your agent, through thick and thin?  What about falling out of love with your editor, your publisher, the boy next door Open season, for realz.

Hello, NYC

I’ll be in and around New York City this week, soaking up big city sunshine and doing Fun Stuff in honor of the 2014 Edgar Awards. I’ve also agreed to cover the Book Launch party for the MWA’s Newest Anthology Ice Cold for The Green Man Review / Sleeping Hedgehog. From the Mystery Writers of America announcement about the event:Ice-Cold-Anthology-Cover

On Tuesday, April 29th, we will be launching our newest anthology, Ice Cold, edited by Jeffery Deaver and Raymond Benson. The launch party will be held at The Mysterious Bookshop, 58 Warren Street, New York, NY. Phone number is: 212-587-1011. The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. and many of the contributors are scheduled to appear. In addition, many of the 2014 Edgar® Award nominees will also be at the bookstore.

… And me! I’ll be there! Though you won’t know me because I’ll be incognito. If you do see through my clever disguise, tell me to buy you a drink, and I will! ‘Cause good sleuthing deserves to be rewarded.
